Risk & Hazards

Trees are one of the greatest risks to the public in park, recreation, resort and golf areas.

People are seriously injured or killed by falling trees or limbs more often than you may think.

Property owners have a duty to prevent weakened, dead, and dangerous trees from causing injuries to passerby.  This includes trimming branches that become too large, removing dead or diseased trees, and regularly inspecting trees to determine if they are at risk of falling.  If a landowner fails to take these reasonable steps, he or she may be financially liable for injuries that occur as a result.

Dying Tree

If you have a tree or a limb fall and cause injury you will get to meet an expert in Hazardous Trees and Risk Assessment. You have a choice when you have that meeting, before the accident or after, while they are on the stand explaining why you should have known of the hazard.  The first meeting takes a day and a few thousand dollars; the second meeting takes about a week and can cost several million dollars.
